If Racing Point signs Sebastian Vettel for its rebrand as Aston Martin in Formula 1 in 2021, it would be a clear sign of the team's ambitions. But what it does with its second seat could tell us just as much about how seriously we should take the project. If Aston Martin really wants to take the fight to the big teams, it has to keep Sergio Perez. If team owner Lawrence Stroll would prefer to keep his son Lance - without a big upturn in the Canadian's performances before that decision is taken - then it would weaken the team just as we're supposed to be taking it more seriously.
